1. High corrosion resistance Many resins and additives have corrosive effects on the surface of the cavity. This corrosion causes the metal on the surface of the cavity to dissolve and flake, the surface condition to deteriorate, and the quality of the plastic parts to deteriorate. Therefore, use corrosion-resistant steel, or chrome plating or cymbal nickel treatment on the cavity surface.
2. Good wear resistance The glossiness and precision of the surface of plastic plastic parts are directly related to the wear resistance of the surface of the plastic mold cavity. Especially when some plastics are added with glass fiber, inorganic filler and some pigments, they and plastic melt flow at high speed in the flow channel and cavity together, causing great friction on the surface of the cavity. If the material is not wear-resistant, it will soon wear out, causing damage to the quality of the plastic parts.
3. Good dimensional stability When plastic molding, the temperature of the plastic mold cavity should reach more than 300 ℃. For this reason, it is better to select tool steel (heat treated steel) with proper tempering treatment. Otherwise, the microstructure of the material will change, resulting in the change of the size of the plastic mold.
4. The mold parts that are easy to process are mostly made of metal materials, and some structural shapes are also very complex. In order to shorten the production cycle and improve efficiency, the mold materials are required to be easy to process to the shape and precision required by the drawings.
5. The plastic parts with good polishing performance usually require good gloss and surface state, so the roughness of the cavity surface is very small, so the cavity surface must be processed, such as polishing, grinding, etc. Therefore, the selected steel should not contain coarse impurities and pores.
6. Small impact of heat treatment In order to improve hardness and wear resistance, plastic mold is generally subject to heat treatment, but this treatment should make its size change very small. Therefore, pre-hardened steel capable of machining is adopted.
